Welcome

This here lil ' old page is just to explain what bein' a Texan is all about and some of the things us Texans are proud of. Now Ya'll come on in and find the fun.

The "Texans" Boots

The Texas boot originally came to be in Mexico. It was usually high topped, toe pointed, and a heel made to ride in the sturup where it belonged. The concept moved north into the Texas cattle country during the 1800's and stuck. The boot has evolved into what you see. Not only functual but works of art to be worn and prized by the owner. The high top was originally to protect the leg from brush and thorns but also has evolved into the beauty of the boot. Most Texans wear their boots with the pants leg over the tops so now many exotic leathers are used for the lower boot(snake, lizard, elephant, elk, hila monster,alligator,etc.). Boots are also still used as the prime work tool of the Texas cowboy. Usually much simplier in make but still "Texan". Chaps...Western Style

Chaps and leggings were commonly seen on the plains cowboy of Texas. These sturdy leather leg covers were there to protect the legs from the many thorns and brush found on the Texas plain. The old longhorns of Texas had a way about finding the most mesquite trees with their long thorns, so you had to have something to protect you or you would become one of the casulities of the plain in a hurry. The chaps were also used for warmth on those cold nights while riding the herd. Goat skin with the fur on looked rather odd but had a purpose and that was to keep the legs from freezing to the saddle. Since the old days there have been garrious designs and today is no different. Check out the pictures of chaps created for the horseman of today. Click on the image to go to the pictures.

The Tool that Won the West
Yep they called it a tool and the picture you see is the Colt Peacemaker-45 Caliber-Single Action(this means the hammer had to be cocked before you could fire it). The Peacemaker is the gun you see in most movies and was called the gun that tamed the west. There were many guns that were used by law officers and outlaws alike. Then I will give you the history of the events that took place in this big state. So come bac ya'll and see what comes up next.
